Emperor & Empress prayed for Prince Norihito

On 28th November, HIM Emperor Akihito and HIM Empress Michiko visited the grave of Prince Norihito of Takamadonomiya in Toshimagaoka Imperial Cemetery. Their Majesties didn't attend any memorial services for The 10th Anniversary for Prince Norihito's Death on 21st November according to the custom.

The 10th Anniversary of Prince Norihito's Death

On 21st November, the memorial service for The 10th Anniversary of Prince Norihito's Death at Takamadonomiya Residence and Toshimagaoka Imperial Cemetery. Prince Norihito of Takamadonomiya died suddenly due to ventricular fibrillation at the young age of 47 years old in 2002.

On 12th November, the memorial exhibition for Prince Norihito was held at Roppongi Hills in Tokyo and HIH Princess Hisako of Takamadonomiya visited there.

On the day, HIH Princess Hisako gave a lecture about Japanese Antique called "Netsuke" which she had collected with Prince Norihito when he was alive.

Okinawa Visit


On 17th November, HIM Emperor Akihito and HIM Empress Michiko visited Okinawa Prefecture. It was their fourth visit to Okinawa as the emperor and the empress.

Firstly, Their Majesties visited Okinawa National Cemetery for the war dead in Itoman City.

On 18th November, Their Majesties attended The 32nd National Convention for the Development of an Abundantly Productive Sea held in Itoman City.

After the ceremony, Their Majesties released young fishes such as Blue Emperor.

Their Majesties visited a rehabilitation center for handicapped people in Itoman City.

On 19th November, Their Majesties visited Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University.

On 20th November, Their Majesties visited Kume island for the fist time.

Princess Kiko in Saga


On 13th November, HIH Princess Kiko of Akishinonomiya visited Saga prefecture. HIH Princess Kiko visited Tsunetami Sano Memorial Museum and Saga Red Cross Blood Center. Tsunetami Sano (1823-1902) is the founder of Japan Red Cross Society.

On 14th November, HIH Princess Kiko attended the Convention of Kyushu Red Cross. HIH Princess Kiko is the vice honorary president of Japan Red Cross Society.

Mausoleum of Emperor Jinmu



On 7th November, HIH Prince Fumihito, HIH Princess Kiko and HIH Prince Hisahito of Akishinonomiya visited the Mausoleum of Emperor Jinmu in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture. Emperor Jinmu is the first emperor of Japan. Their Highnesses are visiting Nara prefecture privately for a few days during the holidays of HIH Prince Hisahito.

Tea Party for Cultural Contributors


On 5th November, HIM Emperor Akihito and HIM Empress Michiko held the tea party for the Culture Merit Award recipients and Cultural Contributors in Rensui, the small dining hall of Imperial Palace. HIH Crown Prince Naruhito, HIH Prince Fumihito and HIH Princess Kiko also attended the tea party.
